She is an American entrepreneur, author, and investor, born April 20, 1984, in San Diego, California. Before building a business empire, she spent her teenage years shoplifting and dumpster diving, later dropping out of community college. At 22, while working a lobby job for health insurance, she started selling vintage clothing on eBay under the name Nasty Gal Vintage.
That side hustle grew into Nasty Gal, a fast-fashion retailer she founded in 2006 and scaled into a company generating over $100 million in annual revenue, named one of the fastest-growing retailers in the country by Inc. Magazine in 2012. In 2014, she published her memoir, #GIRLBOSS, which spent 18 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and was later adapted into a Netflix series.
After stepping back from Nasty Gal in 2015, Amoruso founded Girlboss, a media platform and community for ambitious women, followed by Business Class, an entrepreneurship course, in 2020. In 2022, she launched Trust Fund, an early-stage venture fund backing founders building tech-enabled businesses. She continues to write, invest, and speak about entrepreneurship from Los Angeles.
