About their Startup

Eventbrite is a global self-service ticketing and event technology platform co-founded in 2006 by Julia Hartz, her then-fiancé (now husband) Kevin Hartz, and software engineer Renaud Visage. The company began in a small phone closet in a warehouse in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood, bootstrapping operations for its first two years before hiring its first employees. Eventbrite was built to make it simple for anyone to create, market, and sell tickets to live events, removing the friction and cost traditionally associated with event ticketing. Julia Hartz became CEO in 2016, having previously served as president, and led the company through its 2018 initial public offering as well as the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic, when live events came to a near-complete halt worldwide. Today, Eventbrite serves nearly one million event creators across more than 170 countries, having generated billions of dollars in gross ticket sales and processed hundreds of millions of tickets. The company has become known not only for its scale but also for its workplace culture, earning repeated recognition as one of the best places to work in the San Francisco Bay Area and nationally. Hartz continues to lead Eventbrite’s vision as CEO and Executive Chair.
